RokDoc 2026.4: Deeper Subsurface Analysis

HOUSTON, TEXAS (September 21, 2026) - Ikon Science today announced the release of RokDoc 2026.4, the latest version of its subsurface geoprediction platform. The release increases how much of a dataset a team can analyse to the same standard, and how far a calibrated model can be trusted beyond the wells it was built on.

Models That Hold Up Away From the Well

Rock physics models are calibrated at wells and then applied where there are none, and that extrapolation is only as sound as the mineral description underneath it. RokDoc 2026.4 introduces a generalised mineral mixing framework, allowing a mineral variable to be defined as a matrix of up to six minerals, each with its own fraction and mixing method, optionally mixed with a secondary mineral. Measured mineralogy from core analysis or a petrophysical volume model now goes directly into the model, so fitted parameters describe the physics they are named for instead of absorbing lithological approximation. For teams working complex carbonate or mixed clastic sections, that is the difference between a model that reproduces the calibration well and one that predicts away from it. The capability is available in both forward and reverse modelling.

More of the Field, Properly Characterised

A thorough multi-facies rock physics analysis has always been affordable on a handful of key wells. RokDoc 2026.4 allows working intervals, cut-offs and rock physics model visibility to be configured independently for each plot within a single crossplot layout, so distinct facies such as sand and shale can be examined side by side or together, with each plot showing only the models relevant to the data on it. A complete workup is built once and pointed at the next well or interval in seconds, and layout templates now carry between projects whatever unit conventions those projects use. The standard of analysis previously reserved for a few wells can now be applied across a field, and a method built once can be shared as a company standard.

Evidence for the Rock or Wavelet Question

When an amplitude or inversion anomaly appears at a target, the question is whether it reflects the reservoir or the bandwidth of the data reaching it. A new Spectra attribute type, released across RokDoc 2D, 3D and Attrimod, displays the per-trace frequency spectrum of a quantity over a chosen frequency range with an embedded colourbar, created and managed like any other attribute. Displayed continuously along a section, it shows exactly where frequency content changes, so that question is settled on observable evidence rather than on spectra sampled at a few traces and assumed to hold elsewhere. It also makes the effect of processing work such as spectral shaping immediately visible.

Pressure Interpretation Where the Decision Is Made

Pressure prediction receives its broadest set of updates in several releases. Lines can now be digitised directly in equivalent-mudweight and average-gradient space as well as pressure and depth, so a mudweight window is built in the same terms the drilling engineer will act on, with snapping against trends, markers and gradients. Editing an auto-refreshing line updates its downstream calculations automatically, which makes testing an alternative pressure scenario cheap enough to be routine rather than a decision in itself. Pressure point and gradient data export directly to Excel with configurable fields, and multiple named display templates are now supported.

Consistency and Speed Across the Platform

Horizon and map display settings now propagate to every viewer showing that object, spanning seismic line viewers, project map viewers, 2D and 3D sessions and Scene 3D, with bulk editing available across many horizons at once. A surface looks the same in a section, a map and in 3D, so comparisons between views are dependable and a review pack is consistent without being assembled view by view.

Simultaneous inversion runs faster for both interactive work and export through improved multi-threading, most apparent on large 3D volumes exported across many processors, allowing more inversion scenarios to fit within a project schedule. Automatic log type recognition on import is substantially more reliable, identifying compound curve names correctly and using curve units and descriptions as corroborating evidence, and where the evidence is genuinely ambiguous a curve is left flagged rather than assigned a type that would pass unnoticed into later calculations. Installer packaging improves on both platforms: the Windows installer is approximately 35 percent smaller with install and uninstall times reduced by approximately 70 percent, and Linux distributions move to xz compression for archives approximately 40 percent smaller, so sites can stay current with less disruption.

Design Philosophy

"What connects these changes is reach," said Alan Mur, PhD, Product Manager for RokDoc. "Across the platform, we're pursuing the design concept that a single layout should cover several facies or intervals, a single edit covers every viewer, and a single parameter adjustment updates a live workflow. Our users get to examine more of their data to the standard they would want to apply everywhere, and a model tested in more places is one you can rely on where you have no well to check it against."
